Windermere Wastewater Treatment Works

Welcome to Windermere Wastewater Treatment Works. This is where your used water (from flushed loos, emptied sinks, baths, showers and household appliances) ends up. It’s here where we clean this water before safely returning it to the environment.

So, how do we do it? We use biological, chemical, and physical processes to remove any contaminants from the wastewater.

In 2020, we completed a £45m upgrade at Windermere wastewater treatment works, the largest in the catchment, installing technology to treat wastewater to the highest achievable standards.

But that’s not all. We’re taking action right now to further reduce storm water spills around Windermere.
