United Utilities honoured at military awards
11 July 2016
United Utilities has been honoured at the North West’s third annual Armed Forces Business Awards.
The Warrington-based water and wastewater company received the Covenant Award and was praised for its continuing support to the Defence community.
Military personnel nominated employers ranging from household names to small family businesses. Each had shown outstanding commitment to the Armed Forces either by assisting staff who serve in the Reserves, working with military families or supporting the region’s cadet forces.
Sally Cabrini, Business Services Director at United Utilities, said: “We are thrilled to have received this award. As a major employer and FTSE 100 company based in the North West, United Utilities is keen to have a key role in supporting the Armed Forces. We actively encourage involvement, support employees who are part of all the reserve forces and we’re very keen to recruit people leaving military service. United Utilities is a great place to work for those who have not only the skills but importantly the attitude and enthusiasm for providing, as we do, essential services across the region and around the clock. We look forward to growing our relationship with the MoD over the coming years.”
Brigadier Christopher Coles, Commander of the Army’s 42nd Infantry Brigade and HQ North West, said: “I’d like to add my congratulations to all the winners and the nominees at this year’s regional awards. Each has shown a real commitment to our full time personnel, reservists and our cadet adult volunteers. We ask a lot of our people, but we ask a lot of our business community too; whether it’s supporting reservists on their staff as they deploy on operations, or ensuring ex-personnel who are returning to civilian life get the support they need as they make that transition. We’re grateful to all the organisations which were nominated and look forward to working alongside them for many years to come.”
Six regional awards were presented including small business support award, best public sector employer and cadet forces business award.
