Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme

HARP is a major scheme to maintain drinking water supplies across Cumbria, Lancashire and Greater Manchester for future generations. The Haweswater Aqueduct is a 110km pipeline which runs from the Lake District, through Lancashire and into Greater Manchester. Completed in the 1950s, the pipeline needs essential maintenance to ensure it can continue to supply customers for generations to come.

We hope to award a contract in the first half of 2025 and will then work with the contractor to develop their programme of work. Once we have information on the timescales for each tunnel section, we will continue to update this page. 
 
We don't anticipate starting any construction activity until 2026, however in the meantime you may see us completing further ground investigations and enabling activity in the second half of this year.
