Haweswater Reservoir

Haweswater reservoir is one of our most visited countryside parks and reservoirs and you can see why! Haweswater reservoir is the highest lake in the Lake District. The vast water and beautiful land makes for some spectacular views. Also, along the water’s edge there is a sense of wilderness, and is the perfect place for wildlife lovers. It is also a great spot for keen birdwatchers, with sightings of Peregrines, Dippers and Redstarts.

This is a great spot for keen birdwatchers with sightings of Peregrines, Dippers and Redstarts.

Haweswater is an RSPB (the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) reserve and we work closely with them to manage Haweswater reservoir.

Haweswater has a circular route around the reservoir which is marked on the site board. This can take 5-6 hours and is perfect for the more adventurous walkers! However, there is also walking trails for all levels.

Important notice

Heavy rainfall and sewer flooding

The heavy rainfall may be causing flooding in some parts of the region.

Our teams are out working hard across the region helping our customers who have experienced sewer flooding in their homes.

If you’re experiencing flooding from a road or footpath and there is no evidence of sewage (toilet paper etc.) please report this to your local council, who are responsible for highways drainage flooding.

Please be aware that our phone lines are much busier than normal, take a look at our flooding page for further advice on what to do if you’re affected by flooding.
