Vyrnwy live updates

We'll do all we can to keep things flowing...

Thanks for your patience, we really do understand that construction activity and roadworks can be a pain. We'll do all we can to minimise disruption and keep traffic moving as much as possible while our teams are working on the Vyrnwy Aqueduct Modernisation Programme.

We may only need to set up simple give-way traffic management to provide a safe environment when creating our site accesses or receiving deliveries. If the working areas are located on the road, this may require temporary lane or road closures.  In most instances we can use traffic lights to keep communities, road users and our teams safe. The table below provides further details about the proposed traffic management requirements.

All businesses will be open as usual while we're working.

Tarporley to Norton

The programme information for the Norton to Prescot phase of work will be added shortly.  We've recently held a number of drop-in sessions to share our plans for this phase of work with the community. Thank you to all who came along to see us.  We'll continue to provide updates as our programme of work develops.

You can also find out more about our overall plans to modernise the Vyrnwy Aqueduct by visiting our dedicated virtual exhibition

Lodge Lane

Temporary road closure

Signed diversion in place (A51 Nantwich Road/Eaton Lane/Rabbit Burrows Lane)

Thank you for your continued patience, we do understand the duration of the closure has been longer than originally planned. Our teams will be continuing with further phases of activity to modernise the aqueduct in this area and we’ll provide updates to the local community as the dates are confirmed. The road closure will need to remain in place as we liaise with the highways authority to plan repairs to the collapsed section of Lodge Lane.

Until further notice

Cold Weather

After a few freezing cold days in the North West, it looks like the temperature is beginning to rise.

As the weather warms up over the next few days, any frozen pipes in your home will begin to thaw. When this happens, some of your pipes may leak or burst. It's worth taking some steps now to be prepared just in case this happens to you.

  1. Check your pipes in any cold places such as the loft or garage - can you spot any water dripping from the pipe?
  2. Find your stop tap, which is usually under the kitchen sink and turn it clockwise to turn off the water.
  3. Turn off your heating, open all your taps to drain the system quickly.
  4. Soak up any escaping water with towels.
  5. Check with your home insurance company to see if you’re covered for leaks and bursts or call a plumber.
  6. If you need to find a plumber in your area visit www.watersafe.org.uk
  7. If water has leaked near your electrics switch them off at the mains.
